Committee on Education – Home page

“Biogeography, once a secret delicacy enjoyed only by geniuses, must now be elevated from its current obscurity and placed alongside literature and history as an indispensable component of a truly enlightened education.”

– from, Here be Dragons: How the Study of Animal and Plant Distributions Revolutionized Our Views of Life and Earth. (Dennis McCarthy, 2009)

The IBS Committee on Education was established in 2020 to assist all those interested in providing what Dennis McCarthy so aptly termed – “a truly enlightened education”.

Being one of science’s most holistic disciplines, teaching Biogeography can also be a challenging, albeit tremendously rewarding, venture. With this in mind, The Committee on Education was established to assist all those interested in teaching what Charles Darwin once referred to as “that grand subject, that keystone of the laws of Creation – Geographic Distribution.” (Darwin in a February 10, 1845 letter to Joseph Dalton Hooker)
