1 PhD Position (50 % TV-L E13; 3 years)

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a Master Degree in Geography, Geosciences, Biology, or Ecology and related disciplines for an open position in Biogeographical Modelling.

The scope of this position is focused on species distribution models for various fields of applied ecology, ranging from nature conservation to societal health (Vector-borne Diseases). The successful candidate will get involved in various projects in these fields of research at the department of biogeography. Based on existing approaches and algorithms, we are seeking to develop novel perspectives in this vivid field of research considering various spatial scales as well as biological mechanisms and interactions.
The successful candidate will be working with various types of models. These will be applied to species data, environmental and climatic data, and to protected areas. The candidate will also introduce process-oriented modelling approaches into the correlative frame of species distribution models.

The workload includes part-time teaching in biogeographical modelling and R with approx. 2 hrs. per week during the teaching period. Courses are offered to students from the following MSc programs: Global Change Ecology, Environmental Geography, Biodiversity and Ecology, Geoecology. Teaching language is English.
