An annual celebration of the legacy of Alexander von Humboldt – whose work in botanical geography was foundational for the field of biogeography.

Inspired by the global impact of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Alexander von Humboldt (14 September 1769 – 6 May 1859), the International Biogeography Society is launching – International Humboldt Day – an annual celebration of Humboldt’s legacy and breadth of research that was prompted by his pioneering work. International Humboldt Day is envisioned as a week of biogeography focused events around the world, that bring together researchers and organizations through the organization of local presentations, activities, and online offerings.
