The International Biogeography Society (TIBS) is seeking proposals for workshops on methods and approaches important in biogeographic research. Workshops should take place between 1 October 2024 and 31 October 2025, that is, between our January 2024 (Prague_ and January 2026 (Aarhus) biannual meetings. Workshops could be held virtually, in-person, or as a combination of these options.  We encourage virtual workshops because more people can join, and from more countries.  Online workshop should be spread over several 2-hr blocks or possibly over several days to reduce the tedium of online teaching and learning.

TIBS will provide between 500 and 1000 USD financial support to the organizers of chosen workshops, assuming that workshops have a minimum of 20 attendees, with attendance fees to be determined between the TIBS board of directors and the organizer(s).

Workshops can be proposed on any topic relevant to biogeography. Some past workshops were:

  • Spatial Analysis in Macroecology/Phylogenetic Analysis in Macroecology
  • Species Distribution Modelling – R-package
  • BioGeoBEARS
  • Communicating Biogeography
  • Popular Science Writing
  • Visualizing Evolution in Time and Space
  • Biogeography of Stress
  • Biodiversity Informatics
  • Bayesian Statistical Analysis
  • Integrating and Cleaning Biodiversity Data
  • Intro to Network Analysis
  • Analyzing paleoecological Data

Workshop proposals should include the following information:

  1. Name, institution and email of organizer(s). Please delegate a single organizer as the

point of contact

  1. Title of workshop
  2. Workshop outline (< 600 words) including

o Depth of knowledge needed by attendees/target audience

o Level of detail of workshop

o Maximum number of people in workshop (if it needs capping)

o Mode of organization; if physical: room/power requirements

Please send proposals for workshops by email to Mark Costello, VP for Conferences, mark.j.costello@nullnord.no by 30 August 2024. Depending on the reactions to this call, it may be renewed later in 2024 or early in 2025; expressions of interest are also welcome at this time.
